LS Electric has achieved another milestone in the global power equipment industry by becoming Korea's first STL KERI Member Testing Laboratory. This achievement strengthens LS Electric’s international presence, enhances testing capabilities, and accelerates product certification for global markets.
Advancing Testing Excellence Through STL Certification
LS Electric’s Power Testing & Technology Institute (PT&T) recently secured STL KERI (Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute) Member Testing Laboratory Qualification. This recognition underscores LS Electric's commitment to enhancing product testing standards, technology exchange, and global competitiveness.
On February 13, LS Electric and KERI signed an MOU at the KERI Changwon headquarters to solidify ongoing business cooperation in STL certification processes, technology exchange, and quality system advancements. This collaboration aims to:
Enhance Testing Efficiency: By reducing the time required for STL certification.
Strengthen Global Competitiveness: Ensuring LS Electric’s power solutions meet the highest international standards.
Improve Testing Quality Systems: Advancing testing processes for more precise and reliable results.
What is STL & Why is it Important?
The Short-Circuit Testing Liaison (STL) is a prestigious international association that leads the world in short-circuit testing for power equipment. Each country is represented by only one STL-certified institution, ensuring stringent testing standards. In Korea, KERI was registered as an STL representative in 2011, and now LS Electric's PT&T has joined as the first domestic manufacturing testing lab to achieve this prestigious qualification.
Through this membership, LS Electric can now conduct STL Type Testing faster and more accurately. This enhances efficiency in testing LS Electric’s circuit breakers, switchgear, and other power products—allowing faster global market entry.
LS Electric PT&T: A Global Leader in Testing Excellence
Since its establishment in 1999, LS Electric’s PT&T has evolved into a world-class testing facility, gaining multiple international accreditations, including:
KOLAS (Korea Laboratory Accreditation Scheme) – Over 20 years of international testing certification.
UL (Underwriters Laboratory, USA) – Ensuring safety and compliance for North American markets.
ASTA (Association of Short-Circuit Testing Authorities, UK) – Recognized for electrical testing expertise.
VDE (Verband der Elektrotechnik, Germany) – Compliance with European safety and performance standards.
In 2023, LS Electric expanded its short-circuit generator capacity to 4,000 MVA, placing it among the top six testing laboratories in the world.
A Vision for the Future
Oh Jae-seok, President of LS Electric, stated, “Obtaining STL KERI member testing laboratory qualification is official recognition of PT&T’s expertise in power testing, achieved through continuous investment, securing global talent, and our collaboration with KERI.” He further emphasized that LS Electric will continue to drive innovation in testing technologies, reinforcing its position as a globally recognized testing leader.
With this latest achievement, LS Electric reaffirms its commitment to pioneering the future of power equipment testing and certification, ensuring world-class safety, efficiency, and reliability in the global energy industry.
